Public execution of the iPhone 3G

16.07.2008 | Misc | by Apaxuc

There are some milestones in every product’s life cycle. For iPhone, the milestones are trepanation by iFixit and grinding in Blendtec blender. I was waiting for the second one to happen, and here it is.

Tom Dixon once again laughed in the faces of all eager to have the new iPhone, by turning the new device into dust with blender knives.

Time has run out

We were waiting for it, and we only got disappointed.

GeoHot’s counter went negative.

Dev Team has written in their blog that it’s hard for them to keep working, but they continue doing it anyway.

And nothing from Zibri.

Just as usual. And all we can do is keep waiting…

Steven Voznyak about iPhone 3G

12.07.2008 | Misc | by Apaxuc

Woz

The second founder of Apple, Steven Voznyak has already tried the new iPhone and gave his opinion.

“There’s a slight improvement in page loading time. THe build-in GPS is great. But a lot of my friends are going to switch to the new model just yet. Not always the new is better than the old. The main advantage of the new model is the secure work of Microsoft Exchange.”

Voznyak himself hopes that the new iPhone will help Apple fortify its position in the mobile devices market.

Last night in 5th Avenue

11.07.2008 | Misc | by Apaxuc

I’ve spent last night near Apple Store in 5th Avenue, New York. Everybody was waiting for the opening: some were taking a nap, some playing their PSPs, some listening to music. Passion was in the air.

The line

The salespeople of Apple Store were also on guard. They sometimes went outside to catch a fresh breath.

Salespeople from Apple Store

Do you think our police would allow people to spend the nights in the street for a week?

[Tip] Screenshot with iPhone 2.0

11.07.2008 | Misc, Soft | by Apaxuc

If you’ve already acquired the new iPhone 3G or 2.0 software update, then you’ll be glad to know that making screenshots is now a piece of cake.

You just need to push and hold HOME button and press Sleep.

Finally, MobileMe is stable. Who has already tried it? There’s no problem with Russian credit cards, everything works.

I got a really nice account name (I was surprised it was still available)

writе@mе.соm

АРТЕМ registered kill@mе.соm. What did you get? Comment!

As I have already told you, the me.com part is perfect for coming up with something truly creative, and the shortness of e-mail address makes it easy to remember.

At the moment the following accounts are available auto@me.com, russia@me.com, cash@me.com! If you didn’t have time or ran out of ideas, I’ve prepared a list of Top 500 English words. These names are the most valuable in all kinds of registrations.

P.S. Be prepared that your card will be charged at the time of registration. I have checked the “trial-period” box, but 100 Euros were gone anyway. Well, I do need the account.

App Store: what’s there

11.07.2008 | AppStore, Misc | by Apaxuc

price

24 hours passed since AppStore opening, and what do we see?

A total of 552 apps is available. 135 of them are free, and 417 paid. The prices vary from $.99 to $69.99. There are 85 cheap ones ($.99), and about the same of $9.99 (82) and $4.99 (62) ones.

I am very surprised that there are some products that we can download from the Installer any time for free. One of them is Band – for $9.99.

Update: There are now 613 applications.

What’s inside? iPhone 3G trepanation

ifixit iphone

Nobody doubted that iFixit.com would be the first to take the iPhone to pieces.
And they’ve done it. Crazy!

The guys from Dev Team decided to completely mess up everybody’s brain.

17 minutes ago, another post-puzzle: “Position freely!” appeared in their official/unofficial blog.

What does it mean?

P.S.: I won’t tell you what I think ;-)

Is Dev Team playing games?

7.07.2008 | Misc | by Apaxuc

Yesterday, in unofficial blog of Dev Team a strange post appeared. It’s about… I don’t know what it’s about. And today the story continues with a second strange post. Again, no idea what it’s about.

Is it a reply to Zibri? Or did somebody receive Golden Master and is ready to release PWNAGE 2.0?

Check your internet connection speed

7.07.2008 | Misc | by Apaxuc

Appastore

With the help of testmyiphone.com you can check your connection speed at different networks (useful when comparing EDGE to 3G).

We’ve already compared all types of connections in the article about AT&T. And now I’ve decided to check Megafon’s EDGE and found out that it’s slow and unstable – 129 Kbps. When I launched the same test for Wi-Fi I realized that it’s fast anough to download movies. Great, isn’t it?

What’s your connection speed?

Here they are:

Nothing too intriguing discovered by Chinese brothers: Sharp, Broadcom, Infineon…

An interesting plugin – WPhone, has appeared today on WordPress website.
With it you get admin panel with certain functionality, adapted for iPhone. You’ll be able to write posts, add new users, moderate comments, control posts, categories, etc.
P.S.: The plugin has been out on the web for a while, but came up only now.

Today in Fortune blog a letter from Andy Lees, Microsoft vice-president, appeared, that have been sent to the partners of the company with a copy to the press.
This letter talks about some points that make WinMobile “cooler” than the Apple iPhone.
Here is what it says. Point by point:

an (1) open platform that provides freedom — the (2) freedom for people across the globe to get the type of handset they want (3) on the network they want, the (4) flexibility for our hardware and mobile operator partners to build on the platform, and the (5) opportunity for developers to create applications on our platform for virtually any need.

It’s now my honor and privilege to announce a milestone that our partnership has accomplished. This fiscal year we will sell (6) nearly 20 million Windows Mobile smartphone licenses, making Windows Mobile one of the most widely used smartphone software platforms in the world. We also sold more in the previous four quarters than RIM, and (7) in the last quarter our year-over-year unit growth alone was greater than sales of Apple’s iPhone.

To our (8) 50 handset makers building phones with our software, thank you. With your help, we give Windows Mobile customers (9) nearly 150 different phone choices — from phones with (10) full keyboards to brilliant touch screens to (11) convenient flip phones — with (12) rich email, picture and music experiences. You’ve delivered Windows Mobile phones with features like (13) GPS, (14) 3+ megapixel cameras, and (15) voice activation — features that (16) other operating systems have been slow to deliver.

To our (17) 160 mobile operator partners around the world providing voice and data service for our mutual customers, thank you. Because of you, Windows Mobile customers can send (18) instant messages to their families or (19) update their calendars in countries from (20) Brazil to (21) Belgium, (22) India to (23) Italy. We’re proud that we’ve been able to work with you to deliver more than (24) 40 different phones that run at 3G speeds, at (25) prices that meet a range of customer needs — something (26) not all smartphones can claim. We believe the power of smartphones should not be constrained by (27) price, (28) geography, or any (29) other boundary.

To all our developer partners who continue to innovate and bring new experiences to people and businesses every day, thank you. It is because of you that our Windows Mobile customers have the (30) richest application catalog to choose from — (31) over 18,000 applications to help pursue their hobbies, navigate life and work more efficiently. We’re happy to offer some of these applications through the Windows Mobile Owners Circle and provide you the (32) flexibility to deliver them to your customers in whatever way makes sense.

Today, more and more (33) competitors are jumping into the smartphone market or announcing (34) upgrades, with (35) features we delivered to customers years ago. Overall, we all benefit from the increased attention on everything that a smartphone can do and the difference it can make in people’s lives. But ultimately, it is your commitment to Windows Mobile that’s helped shape our success. Our shared desire to help people do more with their phone (36) the way they choose

And that’s some “big boy talk” from Microsoft, considering upcoming Monday.

Surprisingly, using 2 iPhones, a laptop and Lego NXT Robotics Kit you can make a pretty pacey robot.
You just need to construct a robot using Lego pieces, write a Java LeJOS Robot script, write a web-app using Google Web Toolkit and finally connect the iPhone.

As you can see, the control process is based on the ability of the light sensor to detect different shades of grey.

You can make one of your own using the manual from the BattleBricks.

1. Domo Arigato, Steve Jobs
Top third Japanese operator SoftBank has announced the start of Apple iPhone sales this year.
Now it’s only us (ex-USSR countries) and China left.
We’re waiting.

2. Some of exchange users have encountered a problem with iPhone and Outlook synchronization.
If using Exchange without local disc cache the maximum amount of contacts synchronized is 536.
Yesterday, the specialists at Apple Inc. has published a solution for the problem:

Resolution
Update to the latest version of iPhone software and iTunes.

So, they suggest to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes and iPhone software. Which one would that be?
