If you are new to 2.0.x firmware and the only thing you dream of is a reflective dock with bottom icons reflections, then you should read out the Vladimir Kalinin’s solution.
1.Download the following picture.

2. Upload it to the specified folder:
System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/
3. After you restart your iPhone you’ll see the following:

At the current moment an iPhone 3G can work in Russian mobile networks
only if one of the following criteria is applicable:
1. The iPhone was delivered from Europe, where it was officially unlocked.
2. iPhone is being used together with TurboSIM (also known as proxy-SIM).
The question of proxy-sim stability is as actual in Russia as it never
was. Unfortunatly, the common iPhone user got no time not only to test
and analize proxy-sim, but also to search the infinite forum threads for that small piece of information needed to choose the right proxy. So our portal decided to compare two proxy (Yessim and Tornado) and give a resume on them.

SIMcard programmator
The main problem of proxy-sim is loosing the network connect or registration failure after you travel in a subway or elevator. This defect was repaired in the last Yessim and Tornado firmware.
Alfa88 from iphones.ru prefers to use Yessim from the moment iPhone 2.0.2 firmware was released (that means about twoo weeks). There are some difficulties in patch count configuration – the right and stable config was found after a number of experiments committed.
So, here are the results. During two weeks of usage in MTS (MobileTeleSystems) mobile network his iPhone didn’t broke a connection with EDGE, even after having a subway run it successfully reconnected. The most Megafon and Beeline clients are also doesn’t experience any problems using Yessim. There were registered a few troubles with EDGE, where the connection to high speed Internet was repaired after simple phone restart.
And what about Tornado? Alfa88’s experience of using it lasted for 4 days. The results of tests were similar with the common opinion – the network connection troubles were also repaired, there were only EDGE-incompatibility unresolved. And Tornado doesn’t support 6-pin Megafon sim-cards, they should be exchanged to new versions in operator’s offices.
The Tornado’s firmware should be upgraded to the 0216 version, with the right Fake IMSI parameter. iSmartfone cards are not programmed, and don’t work stable in Moscow. But in small town like Ryazan the results are more optimistic. This is because of the strict mobile operator policy in large cities.
Tornado and Yessime use the same chip F300 and a similar algorithm. The difference is only in a way to configurate them and in dimensions – the Tornado chip is slightly more thick, but the whole module is thinner.
So if you enjoy having an iPhone, delivered from USA, but can’t make a call – use a proxy-sim to start communicating.

A nice mod for weather forecasts managing. Download the archive, that contains the Moscow forecast settings. When the download will be finished unpack the archive. The WeatherWidget.theme folder should be put into our iPhone file system to /Library/Themes/ location. Enable the installed mod in the WinterBoard app and see the picture like it is on the screenshot.
SeaBreeze have just tested the GPRS-appetite of application and enjoyed the results – approximately 8 kilobytes per synchronization.

Those who wants to see a hometown forecast should read the following instruction.
First of all, you should find an upgraded text editor, Notepad++ for example. You can download it from the developers site absolutely free of charge.
Then, take a file configureMe.js from WeatherWidget.themr\Private\ and open it using your advanced text editor. Find a register parameter:
var locale = “Moscow, Russia”,
and sign in your city and country like it’s shown on the screenshot. Save the file, upload it to iPhone and begin watching your own town forecast.

Yes, don’t forget to change the var updateInterval parameter, that manages the forecast renewal time. If you would paste 1440 minutes there you’ll get a daily forecast on your iPhone.
Urgent! WinterBoard is not compatible with Kate.
A WinPWN was updated recently – now 2.5.0.2 version AKA beta2 available.

What’s new:
- A QuickPwn support for 2.0/2.0.2/2.0.2 firmware;
- An ability to change system partition size;
- An Installer compatibility;
- Basic/Expert modes;
- Automatic software update;
- A WinXP and Vista 32/64 bit support.
Just run WinPWN and click the “check for updates” button.

Well, at last every iPhone owner ia able to put up to five useful icons into the bottom dock. Download a Five Icon Dock application from Cydia, install it and just drag an icon you need to the bottom dock.
Everithing is clear – there are no any hints and there are no any troubles.

As was recently revealed, the new firmware has a big security issue.
Let’s protect our iPhone with a password. Now in the “Home” button options let’s set it on “Favourites”. Let’s switch to stand-by mode, then turn iPhone on, but instead of typing the password in, we switch to the “emergency call”. We click the “home” button twice and we get to our “Favorites”.
Nice password-protection, isn’t it? From favorites we can get to the email, simply by clicking the desired contact’s name. Or write and sms. Or, if the contact has an URL assigned, we can get into Safari.
Now we can try setting the “home” button to iPod, and after the same routine we will get into our player.

Update by Ton4ar: [FAQ] WinPWN 2.0, iPhone & iTouch possible errors descriptions (including error “6″).
Error 1013/1014/1015 – appears at downgrade/upgrade to a baseband different from the one that comes with the firmware. It doesn’t mean that the restore wasn’t successful, it just tells you the the baseband and firmware do not match. Use iLiberty/Independence to switch iPhone from Recovery Mode to Normal Mode.
Error 6 and 10 – means there is a problem with your firmware – usually when you use incorrect boot/recovery logo.
Make a new custom firmware and use the right boot/recovery logo or the standard ones.
Error 6 в 2.0 – you are not in DFU mode (read more…)

Vlade called me and told me that gPda.ru is putting together an iPhone with glowing apple on the back side. I’m very fond of know-hows and handcrafts so I visited them to take a look. So, they had 2 ready iPhones and a couple of “apple” parts. Modding consists of removing the aluminum “fruits” and inserting the glowing ones. Looks really cool! (read more…)

Some manufacturers write about their new products. It’s been more than a year that I keep in touch with Thomas from USBfever (Hong Kong). He recently wrote me that his company will release the iPhone 3G SIM Unlock Card on August 20.

We are already familiar with this unlock method. It was before the soft-unlock of 1.1.2 happened. The method is based on a special insertion that goes between your SIM card and the phone. y13 in the article “Entry ticket to iPhone unlocking world” writes that when the phone requests information meaning to check it with the operator, Sim Proxy gives out AT&T(or other official operator) card metrics and in other cases redirects the enquiries to owner’s SIM card.
This info has been proved by other source – UAE developers.

Barely a week has passed, and WinPwn was updated to 2.5. a year

BUT!.. you can’t download it, the author just wanted to remind of himself and show us some screenshots. The new interface is declared. You can see the work is on
Those of you who’ve already upgraded to iPhone 2.0, have already noticed that iTunes makes full backup of your phone every time you sync it with your computer. This process takes a lot of time and sometimes you just don’t want to wait.
Today I’ll tell you how to get rid of it.
Instructions for Mac OS X:
1. Shut down iTunes;
2. Open Terminal.app;
3. Copy and paste this text into Terminal window and press Return:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
4. Start iTunes;
5. Connect your iPhone (2.0 или 3G) and sync.
If you change “true” to “false” in the step number 3, the automatic backup will be back.
Or, you can download the special utility that allows you to do the same.
Instructions for Windows:
1. On your computer, find the file iTunesPrefs.xml. It’s usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes or in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes;
2. Make backup copy of iTunesPrefs.xml;
3. Open it using text editor (for example Notepad++, Ultraedit, but not the MS Notepad!)
4. Find “User Preferences” section and paste there this text:

5. Save the file and relaunch iTunes. The automatic backup feature is now turned off.
Enjoy it!!!
In the screenshot you can see the “About” page of the new iPhone 3G.
As you can see, they were successful in downgrading the modem software to an old beta.

This is not the unlock yet, but it will happen very soon.
According to Dev Team their jailbreak works with the new (not yet released) 2.1 software. They have published this screenshot as a proof. They haven’t let us down for a long time. Let’s hope that we will get this freshly-baked unlock this time, too.

The thing we’ve been waiting for so long finally happened: WinPwn 2.0 is here!

It now supports:
- 1.1.4 and 2.0;
- custom boot and recovery logos;
- payloads;
- iPhone 3G.
P.S.: I advise updating only to those who know what they are doing. Others, you need to wait for the FAQ t be written, so we won’t have to deal with possible SOS messages.
The discussion is at the forum.
You can download the program at Rapidshare.de or Rapidshare.com.
thx to Ton4ar

New info about the release of Windows version of PWNAGE appeared on winpwn.com website.
The release is due next couple of days. So those of you who haven’t upgraded to 2.0 yet, you’ll be able to do so soon.
Many of you noticed that the auto-correction feature of the 2.0 can be really bugging. The interpreters of Apple, Inc. obviously don’t know the slang and modern Russian words.
But we can fix it.
To turn off the auto-correction feature you need to connect to your iPhone using SSH, go to System/Library/TextInput and rename TextInput_ru.bundle to TextInput_ru.bundle.backup. That’s it.

If you wish to turn it off for other languages, too, then you need to find the needed language in “bundle” list and perform the same operation.
P.S.: Please be very careful when doing this.

Finally!

Tonight the DFU Tool was released. It’s a program that allows you to switch your phone to DFU and do whatever you want with it.
You can install iBoot от 1.1.4 (even to iPhone 3G), kernelcashe 1.1.4 (3G will “freeze”) or a hacked RAMdisc.
DFU is the key to exploit used by Dev Team in PWNAGE.
If you have no idea what all these words mean, we advise you not to experiment with this utility.
The new iPhone can be disassembled even easier than the old one. The guys from gPDA have already done it and have published a video showing the process:
We strongly advise you not to do it by yourself to avoid bad consequences.
