Protective cases are recommended to safeguard one’s phone against scratching and minimize the consequences of hard surface impacts. Vendors are offering dozens of various cases for iPhone. I’d love to do regular reviews of iPhone accessories, and the first vendor supporting my aspiration is iCover, a Russian manufacturer. There is no mistake – a Russian one.

Here goes iCover. First impression: looks quite chic. Like an eyeglass case or a wallet. Incredibly lightweight, minimalist, yet funky. Just add a trendy hi-tech wiping cloth and Vertu owners will bite their nails when they see.

The fact that the thing is made of leather produces exciting tactile experiences and durability. The case is offered in several colors and textures. Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) fans out there – that’s what you’ve been looking for. Mind the leather texture, dude.

The stitching along the seams is nice and neat, adding certain charm to the surface. The thread is strong, made of nylon-6.

Putting iCover on. It’s quite a tight fit, but the vendor says it’s for a reason – leather will stretch a bit after a while. Just leave your case for a couple of days with iPhone inside. I gave it a try and saw for myself – after two days the phone would slip in and out in seconds.

Compare the two pictures: the light-brown cover has been in use for 2 days, the black one is brand new. The light-brown one got stretch adapting to iPhone shape.

“iPhone under cover” retains its original dimensions thanks to fine treated Italian leather. Moreover, the case holds the phone reliably preventing it from slipping out – I did perform a 60-second palm-shaking test.

Summing it up, guys from Russia designed a rather cool and competitive accessory.

• Fits too tight at first, time needed to adapt for iPhone shape;
• Non-standard form factor;
• Screen covered up, can’t see who is calling. Need to pull the device out to manage music;
