This model was developed by Newton in the XVIIth century to illustrate the way energies of different types transform into each other: kinetic into potential and viсe versa. Provided there is no friction, this model could go on forever, but in realty this is impossible.
In the year of 1967 a toy was invented by Simon Prebble, an English actor. Nowadays this model often used as a decoration in offices and houses.
The world’s biggest Newton’s cradle is located in the city of Kalamazoo (Michigan state, USA). It consists of 16 bowling balls, 6.8 kg each, hanging on 6.1 m long ropes, 1 m from the ground.
